About Naomi

Naomi Jirah Tiongson (She/Her)| B.A. (Hons.) In Psych

Administrative Support

Hello, my name is Naomi Jirah Tiongson. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me!

I am an Honours Bachelor of Arts student in Psychology with a Minor in Neuroscience at the University of Guelph, passionate about mental health advocacy and culturally responsive care. My academic background explores the intersections of mental health, neurodevelopment, and family dynamics, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusivity in therapeutic spaces.

In addition to my studies, I have contributed to research on Canadian fathers’ experiences with intimate partner violence (IPV) and help-seeking behaviours, deepening my understanding of systemic barriers to mental health support. This research has reinforced my commitment to trauma-informed care and the importance of creating safe, culturally responsive spaces for individuals navigating complex challenges.

I am also extensively trained in active listening, communication skills, and peer support. As a volunteer with the Student Support Network (SSN) at the University of Guelph, I provide confidential, non-judgmental drop-in counselling to students navigating personal challenges. My role allows me to foster safe and inclusive spaces, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and racialized individuals, ensuring they feel heard and supported within the campus community.

Beyond peer counselling, I have worked as an Inclusion Instructor, supporting individuals with Autism and other disabilities/ exceptionalities in recreational settings. This role has reinforced my commitment to promoting neurodiversity and fostering inclusive environments that support individual well-being and development.

Fluent in English and Tagalog, I bring a culturally informed perspective to mental health care and client interactions. As I continue my journey toward becoming a registered psychotherapist specializing in family and youth mental health, I am dedicated to learning, growing, and contributing to accessible and equitable mental health services.
